"Bus Stop" Cast Is Announced

Published on: September 22, 2009

Winder-Barrow Community Theatre is pleased to announce the cast of the final show of the 2009 Main Stage Season. “Bus Stop” by William Inge , directed by Diane Hallen, will open on Friday, October 23rd at 7:30pm at the Colleen Williams Theater in the Winder Cultural Arts Center. The show continues through that weekend and will end on Sunday, November 1st. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 pm, and the Sunday matinees are at 3:00 pm.

This comedy is the story of a group of people who are stranded at a cheerful roadside diner in the middle of a howling snowstorm. All roads are blocked so the passengers on the bus from Kansas City have to hole up until morning. Cherie, a nightclub chanteuse, is the passenger with the most to worry about. She has been pursued, made love to, and finally kidnapped by a 21 year old cowboy with a ranch of his own and the romantic methods of an unusually headstrong bull. The belligerent cowhand is right behind her, ready to sling her over his shoulder and carry her, alive and kicking, all the way to Montana. The other cast members include a young girl who works in the café and gets her first taste of romance, the proprietor of the café who develops a friendship with the bus driver, a middle-age scholar who comes to terms with himself, and an older ranch hand who is traveling with the cowboy. Throw in the local sheriff and the fun begins.

The Adult Continuing Education Center will be the Community Service Recipient for “Bus Stop”. A portion of every ticket sold will be donated to help fund scholarships and other needed supplies for students who are working on their GED or English as a Second Language. WBCT donates part of the income from every show to a local non-profit group to help support community outreach for local citizens.

Tickets for this show can be purchased by credit card by calling Winder City Hall at 770 -867-3106 or with cash and check at Pam Veader’s State Farm Insurance Office at 41 S. Center Street in Winder (770-867-1679). Tickets purchased in advance of the show are only $10.00 for students, teachers, and seniors (55 and older). Adult tickets are $12.50 in advance.
